“I no want wahala ooo!” “I no want problem ooo!” Am sure you have heard those statements somewhere before. Especially if you are in any of the English speaking African countries. Most people don’t want problem. They run from problem. When we eat food we take it with meat or fish if not vegetarian. Be a champion today, make problems your meat! I have heard of a state in the United States that had some problems some years ago. Some categories of people started moving out of the place while others who loved problems moved in to the place. The ones who moved out where looking for better opportunities in places that had no problems while the people moving in were doing that in order to see how they can solve the problem.
The people moving in to the problem areas are champions sir! Problems I say are the very meat of champions. Eventually the people who moved in to the problem areas solved the problem. But before then they bought and became owners of most of the business concerns in the city. Those who ran out later ran back and became employees of the ones who solved the problem. What am talking about is an event of less than 10 years. Don’t run from problem, solve it.
About 12 years ago I was learning to drive in a driving school in Lagos. When I saw the oncoming vehicle I almost ran out of the car. Hey! My driving tutor hit my hand and said “you are the one that determines what happens to the car”. “You are the one to control the car, the car cannot control itself.” No matter what happens to the car in which I was sitting on the driver’s seat was dependent on me. I learnt that and I drove the car and controlled it. My tutor eventually said I learnt fast. That was it. Stay and solve the problem my friend. Don’t jump out. The solution is in your hand. The solution is with you. You yourself are the solution sir!
In life you are valued for the problems you solve not the ones you create or run from. Look for problems that people are rattling with and tend to solve it. As you solve it you become a champion. Alexander the great we were told conquered the then known world at the age of 33. When there was no more place to conquer he started crying, he began to weep. Saying so this is all. I want to conquer more. I want to do more. That’s why he is Alexander the great and not just Alexander or Alexander the small.
Do you desire greatness? Look for problems to solve. Employers are looking for employees who can help them solve certain pertinent problems that they are going through. Once you as an employee can add value and solve certain problems in the place of work the boss or employer will not toy with you. In every serious sphere of human endeavor, value adders, problem solvers are respected.
In the game of soccer (football), we value wins but we value difficult wins more than easy wins. What do I mean? A club that was losing by 4 goals down to nil by first half and then came in the second half to equalize and win the game will be more respectable than one that just won a game by 1 goal to nil. 4 goals down is a giant problem in football. Players that are not problem solvers would have given up. But they did not give up. They were motivated problem solvers. They came around and solved the problem themselves. They equalized and won! You are born to win and not to lose. Rise up and face that problem. You will solve the problem. You will become great, a great champion for good. This is that season we have been talking about. There are problems all around you. The world is looking at what you will do with the problem. You are too loaded to fail. The problem will pass. The tough time will not last. Be tough and win.
Jumia, Amazon and other online sales outlets are solving the problem of commerce. You stay in the comfort of your office or home and place your order online. They bring the goods to you exactly where you are. Facebook, yahoo, google, whatsapp, togo, telegram, etc are all solving the problems of communication. Someone had even said people don’t read any book today except one book and that book is? Guess what ….”Facebook”. People check it all the time, morning, afternoon and night. That is some people’s solution to human problems. Look at your area or niche and try all you can to solve the problem you observe in the environment. It’s very crucial that you rise above problems.
You can be a solution to the problem of unemployment that people are facing. Create that job. Start that business and employ others. Be an employer of labour. You can start the with skill you already have. Age and gender is not a barrier here or anywhere else. Whether you are young or old, start today. Sam Walton was 44 years old in 1962 when he started Walmart. Today Walmart is a big success in the United States. Christoffel Hendrick Wiese was 38 years old in 1979 when he started shoprite. Shoprite is Africa’s brand of Walmart in a way. Leo Goodwin founded his successful insurance company, GEICO at the age of 50. Harland david sanders started the popular Kentucky fried Chicken in 1952 at the age of 62. He actually lost his father at an early age. That’s not an excuse why you should fail friend! Robert Noyce founded Intel at the age of 41. Moses started his life assignment at the age of 80. Do you know LinkedIn? The founder of LinkedIn, Reid Hoffman was 43 when it went public though he was 35 when he started it. Younger founders and problem solvers are many too. It’s never too late to start problem solving. Though we cannot go back and start all over again, anyone can start from now and make a brand new end. Be a champion today, eat a problem!
