Do you know Kingsway? Yes, Kingsway. Kingsway is the name of one of the biggest supermarkets in Nigeria some years ago. It’s like Shoprite that we have around Africa today. It’s like Walmart in the United States. Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) is the name of a church. A church started and lead by the very dynamic, knowledgeable and mobile evangelist, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo. He is the senior pastor of the church with headquarters in London. Here are some things you may not know about the pastor.

  1. Pastor Ashimolowo was born as a muslim in Zaria.
  2. He hails from Ode Omu, a small village in Osun State, Nigeria.
  3. He was born on the 17th day of march, 1952. He is 66.
  4. His father was a military man.
  5. He lived in the barracks while growing up.
  6. He became a devoted Christian at the age of 20 after the death of his father.
  7. He enrolled in a Bible school thereafter.
  8. After leaving Bible school and entering the pastoral work he decided to read books voraciously.
  9. He once enlisted in a training on how to read a book of about 100 pages in 2 hours and yet retain 80% of the content.
  10. His net worth is around 13 million USD.
  11. The KICC pastor is married to Yemisi Ashimolowo.
  12. His wife is the daughter of a pastor.
  13. They are blessed with 2 boys together.
  14. The children are bankers and are married.
  15. He experienced tough times while growing up.
  16. He was a brilliant student but did not have sponsors to support him.
  17. His name Ashi mo lowo in Yoruba means “we shall be wealthy still”.
  18. He loved the discipline of the military and planned to be a military man.
  19. He bought a car for one of his primary school teachers.
  20. The teacher featured him on radio when he was in primary five.
  21. He eats once a day and his common meal is akara (bean cake) at night.
  22. He rarely takes rice, garri, amala and the like.
  23. He exercises by playing golf to keep healthy even though he believes in divine healing.
  24. He has visited about 20 countries but he is on television in about 215 nations.
  25. He has written about 100 books.
  26. His spiritual fathers are Pastor E. A. Adeboye and Prophet Abiara.
  27. He attended Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) and later Foursquare Gospel Church (FGC).
  28. He initially pastored in Foursquare Gospel Church before he went on to start KICC.
  29. He has a teaching and prophetic ministry.
  30. He distributes clothes and money to several widows in Nigeria every year.
  31. The number of widows reached every year keeps increasing every year.
  32. Pastor Faseru is the resident pastor of the KICC in Mende, Maryland, Lagos.
  33. The KICC founder stated that the next leader of the church may or may not emanate from his family.
  34. He said some spiritual children of his have shown preparedness to take the baton when the time comes.
  35. According to him in an interview, his wife will also be part of the transition and if his children feel lead they may be involved.
