25 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START YOUR OWN BUSINESS OR COMPANY

A man who was into fast food sales and has many outlets all over was asked to teach an MBA class. He asked the students what they thought was his business. They all laughed because the question was simple. The man, they assumed was in the fast food sales business. He surprised them by informing them that that was his job but real estate was his business. He made more money from real estate than from food sales. He buys the land on which the fast food businesses thrives and makes more from that.

You need to own your own business. You need to start your own company. Whether you work for government or private make sure you start a company of your own. Here are some reasons or benefits of starting your own company or business. Decide to be a business owner today.

  1. Free time and time at your control. Owning your own company grants you some free time. You can take a break whenever you desire. Initially though, when the company is just starting you have to do a lot of work sometimes without free time. When it stands you can have some free time for yourself. Everyone has 24 hours per day and 168 hours per week. The only difference is what each person does with time. If you were trapped in a burning building and had only 2 hours to escape, you wouldn’t do some nasty things but think only of safety. When you apply the same level of importance and quickness to your business you will be an instant success.
  2. You build something in your name. It is not easy to start anything. It is difficult to start. Starting your own company makes you one of the few who are bold enough to stand out from the crowd and keep doing exploits with their one singular life. The business you build bears your name and you leave a good legacy behind; in your very name!
  3. Tax advantage. Starting a company sometimes can give you some advantages in terms of tax. Because you are an employer of labour the government may give you a tax break or reduce the tax that you pay. Find out about this if you have a company and take advantage of it.
  4. Feeling of fulfilment and joy. Building a company can give you a sense of fulfilment, pride and joy. Just like footballers celebrate after a game so owners of companies are happy when its successful.
  5. You can pass the company to your children or family. A job cannot be inherited by the children or family members but a company or business can be inherited by one’s family members. Your family members cannot inherit your certificates too.
  6. You have a job always and cannot be sacked. During downsizing and retrenchment company owners are not usually affected. It’s the others that become jittery and are affected. Having your own company means that you have a job always and cannot be sacked except the company is no more.
  7. You get to know many more people. As a company or business owner you get to interact with many people at different levels. This increases your network. Your network can determine your net worth.
  8. Decision on Community Service. You take part in community service and become a contributor to good work around you. Because your company makes some profit and you can determine what percentage goes back to supporting and helping the community in addition to corporate social responsibility. As the owner you decide where the money for such good deeds are channeled to.
  9. The thrill of new efforts and experiences. Life can be boring if you do nothing. Having a company makes life challenging and desirable. You have new experiences daily and weekly due to the categories of individuals that you meet from time to time.
  10. Opportunity to become a mentor. If you are able to establish your company and get it running some people will admire you and take you as their mentor. The mentees like to share from your wealth of experience and advise that you give them.
  11. You become a guru not a guguru. A guru is someone who knows what s/he is doing (an expert) and is doing it. A guguru is a learner, just starting out. You get to talk about your success story, how it was attained, what steps lead to what and when and how. All these are challenging to say the least. They confer a feeling of fulfilment and gives you joy as a business owner.
  12. It enables you to develop latent skills as you learn new ones too. As a business owner you learn how things work. You learn about a lot online and offline in the course of doing business. In fact, most times you just have to learn and know what normally you will not learn or know in order to have a profound and successful business. You just must know about the business you are doing. The skills learnt become indispensable assets in other life areas.
  13. You become more determined. Businesses have their ups and downs and I will take determination in other to see it succeed as it should. No business owner will succeed without determination. It is the keeping ability in business and all life endeavours. It is what keeps a business going.
  14. Starting a company makes you a personality to be recognized. People love successful people. The media, individuals come to recognize and appreciate you as a business owner over time. Others have similar goals with you but have refused to start as you did. You persisted and succeeded and will now be looked up to by others.
  15. It makes you to be financially independent. Many people go into business because of the financial benefits attached to it. Everyone wants to escape the trap associated with poverty and financial struggles. A business can give you in a day what salary earners earn in 6 months. It just depends on a number of factors, location and timing.
  16. Opportunity to be a world changer. One can change the world in several ways. One of such ways is to run your own business. You provide new ways of doing things and create new concepts. No matter how minimal you think it is you yet make an impact.
  17. You become an employer of labour. This on its own is gratifying to say the least. Unemployment and underemployment are global problems. As an entrepreneur running your own business you need other people to assist you with your business and that is by giving them jobs to do. You cannot tell the extent to which you can employ others until you give it a start.
  18. You create your own unique brand. A colleague in a company informed me some years ago that he wants to dress well and have a brand in terms of dressing. He made it a point to always look good and decent. This same principle applies when you have your company. You brand it and decide what you want it to be known for. Whether prompt delivery of goods and services or customer service etiquettes.
  19. You are courageous. Every business owner is afraid. But they conquer the fear and take actions that lead to success and victory. Your original fear will become the springboard on which you launch out to success. Procrastination is the thief of time and enemy of achievement. Use your fear to chase procrastination away.
  20. You can start in imperfection. “What is worth doing is worth doing well”. That’s a saying. That implies that business must just be perfect. So most people do not start and go to the grave with their dreams. Another saying says “what is worth doing is worth doing badly at first”. That means you can start small, make mistakes, be imperfect at the start of the bui=siness and as you go on things become better. Improvements can be made. keep improving.
  21. It is not difficult to own a company. Start with the idea. Take action. Plan. Nothing moves until we move it. Everything will continue the way they are except we change it somehow. Practice with small and add some more and some more, soon it gets bigger and better. Look for good locations that have the clients your business needs. It is not hard to start. Start at your own pace.
  22. You will be proud of your efforts. Even if you fail. But don’t plan or think or work for failure. Target success. “I will rather attempt to do something great and fail than attempt to do nothing and succeed”. Don’t attempt small things, go for the big, big ones. It is better even if you fail compared to someone who attempted nothing and succeeded. It is not easy to start and continue to be an entrepreneur. A lot of other people admire entrepreneurs. What they should have done but did not do. Ideas they had but left undone, untouched. A lot of people will respect you for making a good move.
  23. A business can be started in a few days. The governmental agencies that register business names and the business itself are making it easier for people to do that year by year. They make things as easy as easy can be. This is because the government want jobs to be created. So, don’t let that aspect affect you. Spring up and do the appropriate thing today. You have all the opportunities to do better and faster. The complexities involved have been drastically removed. In some countries you can register your business yourself following simple instruction online.
  24. Add your personal reasons. You have a reason why you want to start your business or company outside of the ones I have mentioned here. I have given you a list of why I think you should get into business.  But all that really matters are your reason to start your own business.  So, what is it?  Tweet out this story and add your reason.  Comment below and share with us why you did it.  I know it will be a good one.
